Hows about a silly Halloween album of Monster cover songs starring everyones favorite vampire Dracula?

How could you not like an album that carries the warning " This is a Horrible album" ?

Plus it's vintage - and I believe it's in the public domain too.

Enjoy some goofy holiday music on me this week,

Whenever I'm super stressed or particularly ticked off I find that Iron Maiden can usually offset (if not cure) the problem. Seeing my current situation fits the bill, I've decided to put up one of my favorite Iron Maiden albums - this 1988 gem.

Stylistically, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son develops the sounds first heard on Somewhere in Time (1986), and continues the band's lyrical exploration of topics related to mysticism, power, and the occult.

"The Clairvoyant" was the first song written for the album. According to Steve Harris, the song's lyrics were inspired by the death of psychic Doris Stokes, saying "if she were really clairvoyant, if she were really able to see the future, wouldn't she have been able to forsee her own death?"

At least five of the album's songs ("Moonchild", "Infinite Dreams", "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", "The Prophecy" and "The Clairvoyant") can be directly related to a main lyrical storyline inspired by the folklore concept.

Hopefully, if you get into a similar frame of mind this album will help you out too.

Until next week,

So Today I've got my favorite Blues Traveler album queued up for your listening pleasure. Hard to pick a favorite song (as so many are great) but I'd probably go with Look Around.

Four (styled as four) is the breakthrough album by American jam band Blues Traveler, released on September 13, 1994 (see 1994 in music).

Four peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (North America) and is most known for its hit "Run-Around". According to the RIAA, the album has six Platinum certifications

There ya go! - Have Fun.

I've liked this guy since he was lead singer for Marillion - since then he's gone solo and this album of his is all covers of songs that inspired him. A good many of them are excellent choices - it's hard for me to pick a favorite but Apeman - or Hold Your Head up - or Solo - those all are my favorites I guess.

The choice of songs by Pink Floyd, Genesis, David Bowie, The Moody Blues and others, all originally from a period between 1970 and 1976, reflects Fish's taste in music when he was 12 to 18 years old. The title is a reference to the time when he would impersonate his teenage idols in front of a mirror. Fish's idea to make a cover album dates back to the late Marillion period, but had been rejected by the band.

Give it a listen, It's sure to please.

I figured something funky and fun for the end of the summer. To that end I give you a movie soundtrack that will have you breaking down doors in your own house just for the fun of it.

Yeah, he's a bad mother F....

shut your mouth....

I'm just talking bout Shaft.

The way the film was billed was "The Brother Man In The Motherland." And that may be about as much as you really need to know about the plot of Shaft In Africa, the movie. This was the third and final outing for Richard Roundtree as the blaxploitation hero John Shaft, and the beginning of a 27-year hiatus for the character, who returned in 2000 with Samuel L. Jackson in the title role (although Roundtree made an appearance as "Uncle John" Shaft in that film). Score composer Johnny Pate had had some small chart success back in 1958 with his Johnny Pate Quintet's "Swinging Shepherd Blues," which grazed the Top 20 of the R&B charts. Pate also collaborated with the Impressions (as arranger) for a string of hits in the early Sixties, which led to an A&R gig at ABC-Paramount. The signature tune from the movie, "Are You Man Enough," was performed by the Four Tops, who had recently exited their long-term relationship with Motown and had signed to ABC. It captures the flavor of the film magnificently, with classic blaxploitation lyrics such as "Are you man enough/Big and bad enough/Are you gonna let 'em shoot you down?" Two minutes and twelve seconds of pop perfection, that.

A quick look at the album cover shows what I mean by Funky Fun.

I've got an unusual one for you today, one that could best be described as "spacey". Perfect for those occasions where you need some ambient music playing in the background that reminds you of flying through space.

It starts out quiet and builds ....

So the next time you have an occasion for it - here ya go.

Novus Magnificat, a gorgeous, otherworldly opus from classically trained pianist Constance Demby, has become a true classic in New Age music, appealing to a wide variety of listeners, many of whom are ordinarily put off by the genre. Rooted in worship music of the Western tradition, Demby's majestic improvisational vision produces what the 1986 disc's liner notes call "Contemporary classical Spacemusic: A Magnificat and Exaltate." Incorporating the central voice of synthesizer with a string-and-horn section, piano, organ, bells, and tympani, a choral voice joins with instrumental passages, setting a blissfully reverent tone throughout this two-part melodious marvel.

I was going to describe it as "trippy" and "uber-pretentious", but "spacey" will do.

I actually quite like it. Thanks.

Everyone should be pretty familiar with this band from their song "Take on Me".

What I didn't know was that they have kept on making music and just (and I mean just) came out with a new album.

Foot of the Mountain, a-ha's ninth studio album, was released in Europe on June 19, 2009. The album's material marked a return to synth pop, similar to the band's earliest work, although the first single (and title track) was not wholly indicative of this[17]. The band collaborated with successful producer Steve Osborne, who has produced albums for such artists as New Order, Starsailor, Doves, Elbow, and U2. "What There Is", an earlier solo track by Mags, was re-recorded for the album. Foot of the Mountain entered the German album chart at #1, the UK album chart at #5 [18] and debuted on the Billboard European Album Sales Chart at #8.

It's a fun summer blast hearing the 80's like synth blasting out bloops and bleeps, I'm liking this album and I hope you do too. If you're a fan go out and send some love their way by buying the album.

Wow - yeah, 1980. Can you believe it?

I've got another great summer album this week - and I've always thought that this was their ultimate album. The band was considering breaking up but instead created this beauty.

Back in Black was the first AC/DC album recorded without former lead singer Bon Scott, who had died at the age of 33 on 19 February 1980. The band considered disbanding following Scott's death, but they ultimately decided to continue and shortly thereafter hired Brian Johnson as their new lead singer and lyricist. Producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who had previously worked with AC/DC on Highway to Hell, was again brought in to produce.

Did you know this is the second best selling album of all time? (Second to Michael Jackson's Thriller)

Crank it up and rock on with your bad selves :-)

When this album came out (1986) it was a hot summer and I remember listening to this whilest hanging out with all my geeky friends from the BBS (yep BBS - it was that long ago)

To me this album reeks of summer fun - I know the band got an exremely hard time from other metal bands for using guitar synths... and maybe this was deserved... But it turned out to be one of their most popular albums ever.

This from Wikipedia ( Turbo was released in 1986, during the glam metal era. To keep up with the times, Priest adopted a more colourful look and gave their music a more poppy feel by adding synthesisers. The album also went Platinum and had a successful tour in support, but some critics argued the album was a sellout. )

It's a fun metal album sure to please - Enjoy it while you're playing in the summer heat.

I wanted to do some summer albums (you know, some albums just feel like that) - and the first one that came to mind was this one from former Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour.

[On An Island peaked the UK charts by reaching number one. On 10 April 2006, the album was certified platinum in Canada, with sales of over 100,000 copies. The album also gave Gilmour his first US Top 10 album as a solo artist.]

Here in the States it got a little airplay but not nearly the respect it deserved. This album is summer relaxing, fun, heat and thought all wrapped into a warm familiar style.

David Crosby and Graham Nash sing harmonies; Robert Wyatt plays cornet and percussion; Guy Pratt plays bass; Caroline Dale contributes on cello; Alasdair Molloy performs on glass harmonica; and Richard Wright guests on Hammond organ and vocals.

Enjoy this one while you sit back in the sun and get your laid back groove on.

The latest (2004) album from Capt. Kirk.. was quite the star studded album - and yes, it did include singing...

features guest appearances from Joe Jackson (on the cover of "Common People"), Folds and Aimee Mann (backup vocals on "That's Me Trying"), Lemon Jelly (on "Together"), Henry Rollins and Adrian Belew (on "I Can't Get Behind That"), and Brad Paisley (on "Real", which he wrote specifically for Shatner).

For all you geeks - and Shattner Fans, Enjoy - this album is way cool.

Hey -I actually got this up and done! ......

Everyone - well, pretty much everyone knows Steely Dan - This album features more than a few songs that hit bigtime radio play. Some are still playing in circulation today.

The songs that didn't make the charts on this album are worth a listen too, and heck - I was just in the mood for a little Jazz/Rock.

Lay back and Enjoy this one.

This band has really evolved over the years so it's kind of hard to describe their style, this description of their current sound from Wikipedia kinda fits this album...

One description of their current 'sound' might be: "Complex, melodic art-rock, often with a somewhat wistful and/or spiritual edge...", but in truth, they don't really sound like anyone else. The band themselves have described their output (not entirely seriously) as: 'Songs about death and water since 1979...'

This particular album has a sorta special significance to me - About a year ago I discovered this album right after I moved.. both the title and the songs really hit home with me at the time.

You'll find a really solid Marillion album with some exceptionally good tunes. My favorite would be #4 (Wrapped up in Time)

Enjoy! all songs are 192k.

Yello is a Swiss electronica band consisting of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank. They are probably best known for their singles "The Race" and "Oh Yeah", which feature a mix of electronic music and manipulated vocals, as does most of their music.

You'll Recognize "Oh Yeah" from Ferris Buellers Day off... chicka chicka. :-)

I noticed that today was June 3rd and instantly this album came to mind for the identically titled song.

Yello is a great oddity of the music world and if you've never gotten a chance to hear more of their work - now you have one.

Enjoy!

GeeG Radio - Yusuf (Cat Stephens) - Roadsinger (2009)

Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night) is a studio album by Yusuf Islam (the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens) released on May 5, 2009 on A&M Records. Roadsinger is Islam's second mainstream release since his return to music. The album made its debut on the Billboard 200 at position #41 and on the UK charts at #10.

I think its a good album - it sure has been a long time since I listened to any Cat Stephens work and I was pleasantly surprised to find I could settle right in to these.

Enjoy!

Jazz Fusion Edition.

Have you heard this guy ? If not, you are in for a special treat.

There's no one that plays guitar like Mr. Jordan. One of my favorite tracks of his on this album is his rendition of Stairway to Heaven - (Track 5).

Stanley Jordan (July 31, 1959) is an American jazz/jazz fusion guitarist, best known for his development of the touch technique for playing guitar. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and he received a BA in digital music composition from Princeton University in 1981, studying under computer-music luminaries Paul Lansky and Milton Babbitt.

Jordan's touch technique is an advanced form of two-handed tapping. The guitarist produces a note using only one finger by quickly tapping (or hammering) his finger down behind the appropriate fret. The force of impact causes the string to vibrate enough to immediately sound the note, and Jordan executes tapping with both hands, and with more legato than is normally associated with guitar tapping.

(192k)

Enjoy this one - some cool Jazz Fusion to get your week off on the right note.

I thought you all could use some background music for a laid back Cinco de Mayo ... so here it is...

What do you need to accompany Margarita's and Coronas and limes and salsa and Nachos ?

You need some fine fine Mexican music to get in the spirit!

True - this is more Cuban and Latin American influenced than Mexican but trust me - it will put the finishing touch on your Cinco celebration!

Hey - hava an awesome Cinco !!!

GAMALON is a Jazz Rock/Fusion (progressive rock) artist originating from United States.

Their self-titled debut in 1987 was one of the finest examples of jazz rock fusion. "Project: Activation Earth" with Ernie Watts followed in 1989. "Aerial View" appeared in 1990, quickly followed by "High Contrast" in 1991. Their latest studio album was 1996's "Held To The Light", their most mature work to date.

I remember we used to use this particular album to demo sound systems when I worked at Sears. It still holds up really well, and here it is in 192k for your enjoyment.

GeeG Radio -Special Treat - Adrian Legg - Guitar Bones (192k)

Acoustic Guitar Wizardry anyone? Yeah, get a load of this guy.

"There are guitarists, there are axe-wielding maniacs, and then there are wizards. Adrian Legg is one of the wizards. He has enough technique to do just about anything he wants, but also the sensitivity to honour the contours of a melody." - Philadelphia Enquirer, Aug. 5, 2000

No kidding - this is the first of a few albums of his I have to share with you and I'm completely certain that you will enjoy the heck out of this.

This is one of those albums you'd want to put on softly at dinner if you were looking to impress....

Enjoy! -Rob
