Thanks to Osh for pointing this out - cool tune!

Nice tool to have here, when a machine gets bad enough that it can no longer be scanned from inside the OS - give bitdefender a try... I've had some good luck with it.
- by RobThis little-advertised free product can scan your unbootable or corrupt Windows setup safely from a Linux Live CD.
Don’t panic! You don’t need to know anything about Linux to use this disk. All you need to know how to do is burn an ISO and boot from it.

If you've got either of these operating systems you'd be well advised to follow the mitigation HERE as the patch is not coming for a while....
- by RobMicrosoft said on Wednesday that its security team has detected more than 10,000 distinct computers that have experienced the attack against the bug in the Windows Help and Support Center. The vulnerability, which was disclosed on June 10 by researcher Tavis Ormandy, makes it possible for attackers to remotely install malware on computers running Windows XP and Server 2003 by luring end users to booby-trapped websites.

Hey Osh , seen any giant hairy creatures lately?
The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office has filed the case as a “suspicious person report” but says it is keeping an open mind.

Phew, another week down and for us Dads we get a day of our own to hopefully relax and enjoy. The weather here is looking extremely hot and sunny - hope your weather is as nice.
Happy Fathers Day!

- by Rob"After 53 years of investigation, I'm convinced we're dealing here with a cosmic Watergate," he told AOL News. "That means a few people within major governments have known since at least 1947 that some UFOs are alien spacecraft."
In Friedman's new book, "Science Was Wrong," co-authored with Kathleen Marden, he wrote, "There's been no shortage of strong, negative proclamations from debunking groups and individuals who refuse to examine the evidence ... to support the notion that some UFOs are of extraterrestrial origin."

Wow, I can't believe it. All my high end cards were BFG's. They were an awesome company and I'm sad to see them exit the market.
- by RobBFG is backing out of the video card business gracefully; there will be no new cards available which is an unhappy occurrence for those hoping to stick with BFG for their next upgrade. This is also going to be a damper on anyone hoping to take advantage of their popular trade up program. All is not lost for those currently using a BFG card as tech support is still available as is RMA service, ensuring that BFG is making good on the warranties that were offered with the purchase of a BFG graphics card.
Voyager 2 was the satellite that had the record with contact us info if you remember....
Currently Voyager 2 is 92 AU from the sun as of March 2010, that puts it in the constellation Telescopium.
Hartwig Hausdorf, a German academic, believes that the reason Voyager 2, an unmanned probe that has been in space since 1977, is sending strange messages that are confusing scientists, is because it has been taken over by extraterrestrial life.
Since its launch, Voyager 2 has been sending streams of data back to Earth for study by scientists, but on April 22, 2010, that stream of information suddenly changed.
I dunno, it's a pretty sketchy link - and all I can picture is a bunch of super intelligent beings trying to play the record on a cd drive.

If you've got an older win 2k machine around doing work, you might want to read through this article....
- by RobToday we pulled the update because we found it does not address the underlying issue effectively. We are not aware of any active attacks seeking to exploit this issue and are targeting a re-release of the update for next week.
The issue only affects Windows 2000 Server customers who have installed Windows Media Services (a non-default configuration).
Bryant urged affected users with internet facing systems with Windows Media Services installed to evaluate and use firewall best practices to limit their overall exposure.
The MS10-025 bulletin is rated “critical” because attackers could launchi remote code execution if an attacker sent a specially crafted transport information packet to a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server system running Windows Media Services.

This is quite the accomplishment, imagine having a terrabyte to play around with on your laptop... What a luxury.
- by RobThe MKxx59GSM series comprises 750GB and 1TB capacities in a three-platter, 12.5mm-high package that works well in situations where massive storage is more important than svelte form factors. More impressively, Toshiba has managed to cram 750GB into a two-platter, 9.5mm-high drive (the MK7559GSXP) that the company says offers the market’s highest areal density. It also uses 14 percent less energy than its 640GB predecessor.
If you've ever tried to browse the web with flash uninstalled then you know HP has more than a point here. - What's even cooler? It runs Windows 7 - which means instead of being tied down to an app store controlled by style Nazis - you can install whatever the heck you want.
Way to go HP.
- by RobLink: http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2010/03/01/chrome-gains-more-market-share
All the other browsers took a hit and Chrome gained slightly - is this a glimpse of things to come? Probably.
- by RobNet Applications found that Chrome managed to attract more than a few new users, however, increasing its market share by 0.39 percent on a month-over-month basis.
The fact that Chrome beat all of its competitors (at least at least with respect to short-term changes) is quite impressive. The small surge in popularity it experienced wouldn't exactly qualify as embarrassing under other circumstances, either, even if 0.39 percent isn't an overwhelming amount.

Another one from the big pile today - this one looks a bit different.
Pretty much ideal for use with Windows Media Center, Boxee, or just about any other PC-based media center application and saves having to get up off your sofa ![]()
It’s powered by two AAA batteries and the USB receiver neatly right inside the controllers battery compartment.
As well as ordering from Brando you could, if you so wished, order it directly from Lenovo and save four bucks – and perhaps a little more as Lenovo always seems to have a variety of coupon codes floating around.

Something for everyone in this box -
- by RobThe big plus of this minuscule Habey BIS-6620 ultra-compact PC is its total silence, playing back 1080p video with no fans. For that price, though, you don't get a hard drive, but there's a place to plug CompactFlash and SD cards in the front, and there's a 1.8-inch internal hard drive bay inside. You can load up any flavor of Windows or Linux, too.

Go to the manufacturers web-site. Just because it supports 1080 doesn't make it an HTPC. They actually market it for kiosks, digital signage, POS or other HD media.

I couldn't agree more - this is a rant by a programmer who is thoroughly sick of it. It's time to get a new system going Microsoft...
- by Rob1 comment
And it's done by the same lazy programmers who put their DLL and other files in the SYSTEM32 directory because Windows always searches that directory for everything.
The registry could have been good, but the problem with Microsoft is that the DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOCK THEIR RESOURCES! The registry should have been strictly for the operating system. Not for storing your high scores in Tetris. If (big IF) Microsoft was smart, they would have made a separate registry for local applications.
Well, when the registry first came out, I bashed it... just as I based their ActiveX when first released.

Just in case you were wondering.
Well, the domain has been pointed back and some of you should see the site - as the evening progresses more people will be directed in.
Stuff completed ,
1- redirect during code upgrade
2 - complete code upgrade
3 - database upgraded
4 - domain repointed here
some things will look funky for a time until I get everything cleaned up but overall I think the whole deal went pretty well.... Instead of updates tonight I'll be working on fixing and styling.

France is set to concede that it is aware of an alien presence on earth by no later than Friday.
Paris has chosen follow the lead of maverick UFO nation Brazil and resist US pressure to continue delaying disclosure until America feels it is ready for the event.
It is believed Holland and Germany are set to soon follow France's lead.
I guess we'll have to wait and see - I am of course dubious as this has been announced before. Still, in some ways it would not surprise me.
Get out the tinfoil hats!

Ok, at first this video seems pretty crappy - things start to get interesting at about 3:51
I'd be interested to hear what you GeeG skeptics have to say this might be....
And - swamp gas and weather balloon have already been taken.

3. Muzzle those damn kids.
Mylar balloon with Styrofoam head band around it. Nothing to get all worked up over it.
Granted, it's a remote possibility - but it is possible...
Scientists in South Africa have detected radio signals from beyond the solar system for the first time – prompting a wave of excitement over who, or what, might have sent it. The signal is the most significant of its kind since radio telescopes started operating in the 1960s.
A strong radio signal, possibly of alien origin, was detected at around 21:14 local time on July 28. It came from Sagittarius A, the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy, approximately 30,000 light years away.

Amazing triangle shaped UFO - which just happens to have fins kinda like a stealth plane.

(note to see said fins look at middle photo in article enlarged)

NASA and Science magazine announced Thursday that large amounts of methane have been found on the Red Planet, which could be a sign of biological activity.
Nearly 21,000 tons (19,000 metric tons) of methane were released all at once during the late summer of 2003, according to a study published Thursday in the online edition of Science.
Either we got some living (and farting) organisms or a very gassy volcano... either of which is pretty cool...
Also- there's not a good image when you search for "farting martian"

Taken with a gen 3 Sony cam and night vision goggles. The best refute I've heard on this is a flock of birds... You be the judge.

Ok -firstly I so cannot believe I beat Whitley Strieber to the punch on this one.
"The footprints were about 20 centimetres (eight inches) long and looked like a human's," Yoshiteru Takahashi, the leader of the Yeti Project Japan, told AFP in Kathmandu on Monday.
Takahashi was speaking after he returned with his seven-member team from their third attempt to track down the half-man-half-ape, tales of which have gripped the imaginations of Western adventurers and mountaineers for decades.

I dunno - that pic itself is pretty iffy... and where's the trail - unless one just sorta touched down on one foot then flew off I'd say we got us another bigfoot costume in a cooler.
